Theme-Valentines Day-“Loving Tree”

Project-Made an arrangement in red plastic Valentines 5” buckets from the Dollar Tree. Put dried Crepe Myrtle branch with dried blossom cups still attached (spray painted red) as the centerpiece.  Put red, pink, and white/red carnations, greens and a few baby pink roses into wet oasis surrounding the base of the “Tree”.  Added in a pink or red glitter heart on a long pick. Gave the residents foam hearts to which we had attached a ribbon loop for them to hang on the “tree” branches with initials written on them representing all of the people that they love(d).

Ed Talk/Activities-Presented a rather long program, “Love, Murder, and Roses.”  Discussed and showed photos about committing crepe murder on crepe myrtle trees and how they look in their natural state in all seasons and then discussed the symbolism and meaning of all different colors of roses.  Read several poems about roses and Valentines day.  STR
