September Projects

 

Theme-Brussel Sprouts

Project-Floral arrangement with brussel sprouts included.

Ed Talk/Activities-Talked about cool season vegetable member of brassica family.  Where and how grown with pictures of this crop.  Nutritional value.  LN/MH

 

Theme-Even Later Summer Bouquet

Project-Arrangement in oasis floral foam in light green coffee mug purchased at the dollar store.  Greens used included: pittisporum, pachysandra and andromeda.  Flowers included: purple Angelonia, assorted zinnias, rose celosia, rudbeckia Goldquelle, conoclinium, pink gomphrena, white chive flowers, and tansy.

Theme-Apples

Project-A floral arrangement in a cored apple with a small oasis stuck into the cavity.

Ed Talk/Activities-Discussed and sampled different types of apples. HC

 

Theme-End of Summer Flowers

Project-Flower arrangement including cuttings from coleus and mint to possible root for planting indoors.

Ed Talk/Activities-Discussion of coleus and mint as outdoor summer plants and indoor winter houseplants.  BRG

 

 

 

 

 

Theme-Butterflies

Project-A small bowl with oasis.  Used picks including butterfly, caterpillar, and pupa.  Flowers used were: gomphrena, asters, mums, and TH bed flowers.

Ed Talk/Activities-Host plants and butterfly lifecycle and native butterflies.  Showed large pictures of butterflies, caterpillar and pupa.  KN

Project-Made arrangements with fall flowers and planted pansies with the residents.
