Made by glueing (hot glue or rubber cement) artificial or fresh carnations and boxwood onto a purchased pearl bracelet

Theme-Fairy Gardens

Project-Planted strawberry begonias and hens and chicks in handmade fairy abode.

Ed Talk/Activities-Discussion of fairy gardens and miniature plants. MH/LN

 

Theme-Critters in the Garden

Project-Peter Rabbit with a little jacket in the garden.  Used recycled containers from frozen dinners.  All plant materials were small in keeping with the little garden patch.  Team member, Jeanne Atzert, shared pictures of herself chasing a rabbit out of her own garden.

Ed Talk/Activities-Discussion of critters in our vegetable gardens. GH

 

Theme-Spring Flowers

Project-Baskets filled with yellow daisies, lavender, pink and white carnations, and greens. 

Ed Talk/Activities-Discussed history of these flowers and talked with residents about their memories of springtime and flowers.  HC

 

Theme-Mother’s Day-May Day

Project-Flower arrangement of iris, dianthus, peonies, white carnations and greens in a glass bottle with floral decorative tape embellishments on the front of the bottle.

Ed Talk/Activities-Discussed information about flowers included in the arrangement and Mother’s Day and May Day.  BRG

 


Theme-Salad Boxes

Project-Planted lettuce seeds in small crates.

Ed Talk/Activities-Talked about the best times to plant vegetables: cold weather vs. warm and the different kinds of leaves we can grow and eat.  In a subsequent month, we harvested the lettuce leaves and other herbs from the crate.  Each resident got to harvest the ones that they planted.  We had a salad party with added toppings and dressings.  STB/BH

 

Theme-Planting Outdoors

Project-Version 1 with assisted living residents-Planted flowers/vegetables in the outdoor boxes on both floors at Brighton Gardens. (Some residents can only manage a bit of this activity). Version 2 with Dementia patients-Simplification of the above to focus on the tactile aspects of planting outside, feeling the soil, watering, etc.  They are excited to plant the seedlings they started from seeds.

Theme-Mother’s Day

Project-Made Tussie Mussies.  Using a decorative paper cone made in advance and ribbon trims as the container, the residents created a bunch of flowers and herbs and greens held in a small water filled baggie tied tightly and placed in the cone.

Ed Talk/Activities-Talked about the history of Tussie Mussies and Mother’s Day traditions.  STR

Project-Potted Foam Face with sunglasses.

Theme-Lemons

Project-Used a yellow container (spray painted cup), with yellow, white and orange or bright flowers.  Picks of fresh or dried lemon slices on picks.  To dry lemon slices, put them on pick not touching other lemon slices and leave for a week or two.
